Heat Settings & Performance

Excessive heat can wreak havoc on your hair, while low heat settings may not be efficient for drying thick hair. The ideal solution to this predicament is investing in a hair dryer with versatile heat settings.

Take the Parlux Alyon hair dryer, for instance. It offers four distinct heat settings, catering to a wide range of hair types and needs. Additionally, it features a cold shot function to set your hairstyle after drying.

What sets the Parlux Alyon apart is its potent airflow of 2,250 W, coupled with a “Built-In Silencer” technology. This ensures a powerful yet quiet operation. Its robust airflow can dry even the most voluminous hair in mere minutes.

In contrast, the GHD Helios offers three heat settings, backed by a robust airflow and a 2,200 W brushless motor. It employs the “Bespoke Acoustic System Technology” to maintain a low noise level, even at the highest speed setting. The Helios can completely dry your hair in approximately 1.5 to 2 minutes. This makes both the Parlux Alyon and GHD Helios excellent choices for quick and efficient hair drying.

Frizz Control

Ever used a hairdryer only to end up with a frizzy mess? That’s not the result you were hoping for, was it? Hence, understanding the frizz-control technology in a hairdryer is crucial before making a purchase.

The Parlux Alyon hair dryer is equipped with ionic technology that generates negative ions, ensuring your hair remains sleek and smooth. This technology also imparts a glossy shine to your hair. However, it may reduce volume, particularly if you have thin hair. This issue can be mitigated by using a diffuser, as the ionic technology remains active.

In contrast, the GHD Helios, while employing the same ionic technology, excels at eliminating frizz from your hair. It allows precise focus on specific sections, thereby reducing frizz and enhancing smoothness and shine.

However, similar to the Parlux Alyon, the GHD Helios may not be the best at adding volume to your hair. Both dryers have their strengths and weaknesses, and the choice depends on your specific hair needs and preferences.

Weight & Ease of Use

Experiencing arm fatigue while drying your hair can deter you from using a hair dryer daily. Yet, stepping out with wet or unstyled hair is not an ideal scenario either. This is where a lightweight, ergonomically designed hair dryer becomes a game-changer.

The Parlux Alyon, weighing a mere 0.46 kgs, is one of the lightest hair dryers on the market. Say goodbye to muscle aches or arm fatigue while drying your hair. Its heat and speed controls, along with the cold shot button, are strategically placed for ease of use, eliminating the need to switch hands to adjust settings.

On the other hand, the GHD Helios, weighing 0.78 kg, may cause some blow-dry fatigue, particularly if you spend more time styling your hair. However, its ergonomic design ensures ease of use for both right and left-handed users. Switching between different settings while using the hair dryer is a breeze with the Helios. Both dryers offer unique benefits, and the choice depends on your specific needs and preferences, but we got to give the win to Parlux Alyon here thanks to its extreme weight advantage.

Build Quality

The build quality of a hair dryer is paramount as it directly impacts the product’s durability and performance. A well-constructed hair dryer not only ensures longevity but also provides a reliable and consistent styling experience. Therefore, considering the build quality is essential when choosing a hair dryer.

The Parlux Alyon, available in nine distinctive colors, boasts an ergonomic design and a luxurious aesthetic. Despite its lightweight nature, it exudes a high-end feel, far from appearing inexpensive. However, it falls short in terms of warranty, offering only a one-year guarantee.

In contrast, the GHD Helios is available in five to six colors, with the company periodically launching limited-edition designs. While its style is decidedly high-end, it may feel somewhat less premium in use, perhaps due to its lower price point compared to the Parlux Alyon. Nevertheless, the Helios outshines with a two-year warranty promise.

In short, the Parlux Alyon feels much more solid and higher quality.

Our Pick

After looking at both hair dryers, we found that the Parlux Alyon is the best. It works really well, has new features, is easy to use, dries hair quickly, and is designed to be easy to handle. Even though it’s a bit pricey, the Parlux Alyon is worth it because of how well it works.

Parlux Alyon

This is the second Parlux hair dryer I have purchased. I bought my first one around 7 years ago and it only broke when a tradie used it outside when doing some work on our house. I researched the various Parlux hair dryers and decided this would be the best one for me. I also watched reviews on YouTube and comparisons against the GHD hairdryers as I was considering buying one of them instead. I am very glad I purchased this Parlux Alyon hair dryer. It has a long cable which is very handy and dries my hair pretty quickly with noticeable less frizz (I have shoulder-length hair, which is naturally wavy and it takes me around 7 minutes to dry my hair). You can tell it's a powerful hair dryer but it's light to handle. I didn't notice that it was any louder or quieter than my previous Parlux, you're going to get noise with any hair dryer and I haven't noticed this model is particularly loud. Would definitely recommend this hair dryer.

This hairdryer is fantastic. I got the pink one so apart from being pretty, its good quality and dries my thick hair very well. The extra long cord is great too. Its not too loud and easy to take the filter off to clean. I didn't realise till after i bought but my hairdresser uses this same hairdryer, they have them in lots of funky colours.

I have always thought why would you spend so much on a hair dryer when you can get one for under $50. Well was I wrong about that. I would never go back. This hair dryer is so fast it has cut my drying time in almost half. Great size and light to hold. I love it.

This really is a quality dryer. Its well made, looks good, and lightweight. Didnt really get a chance to use it as i returned a day after receiving. Box was banged up and it looked like it had been removed from packaging. Thats why i've removed one star. There was a weird smell when powered on the first time but i've since learned thats normal if it goes away after a minute or so of use. To sum up this seller is selling quality Parlux tools and shipping them out in a timely fashion. Received product a day early. Just wish it had been packaged better and was in pristine condition. Would have kept and reviewed 5+ stars.

GHD Helios

Was looking for a dryer that does not disturb others with irritating noise. This dryer at its hottest setting is really quite quiet! And works well for my unruly wavy hair needs. Hope it lasts for years.

I bought this for a DiL. She was in the jungles with the WHO. She just got back to America and was able to use the hair dryer this past week! She LOVES it! It just sad that she cut most of her hair off do to a parasite. It is about an inch long and she is sooooo greatful! Thank you!

Excellent hair dryer! I love GHD, I have their straighteners and was really excited to test out this hair dryer. It is beautiful! Comes in a gorgeous box (which makes it a perfect gift), and is elegantly presented inside. I ordered the plum that has a gold accents. It also comes with an attachment that helps smooth out your hair during drying. The hair dryer fits in my small hands well. It is not clunky and is pretty comparable in weight to my other dryer. I wouldn’t class it as light weight, but my arm didn’t feel tired after drying from the weight. It has fantastic drying power, and dried my hair quicker than my old dryer. Easy to use and has 2 different heat settings plus a cool shot. Also 2 different power settings. My only complaints are that the attachment felt a little cheap. It was a pretty thin plastic and I was worried about snapping it when I pushed it on. I also am surprised it didn’t come with anymore attachments especially given the price point. I loved this hair dryer and feel like it left my hair beautifully sleek and dried in less time, however I’m not sure the results can justify the price point for me personally. If price is not an issue, this is an excellent option and would make a great gift.

My last hairdryer was losing drying power but after I got this one maybe my last one was never really that good of a dryer in the first place. I do not regret my purchase. love the dryer. I have very long hair with some curl so I need a light weight dryer because it takes a hot minute to blow dry this mane.
